Running for over 10 years and gaining momentum and significance with each edition, Health & Safety North is back in 2018 for its best year yet. Dedicated to those responsible for health and safety at work, this year’s event will address the industry’s biggest concerns and create a platform on which to innovate ideas, answers, and solutions for the future.

On 9-10 October practitioners from across the North of England come together to learn from respected industry voices, network with fire safety professionals, and procure the latest products, services and technologies from a wealth of suppliers and manufacturers. Confirmed exhibitors include Ejendels, A-Safe, Safety Media and AlphaBiolabs, and with show partners such as AIF, BSIF and IOSH, the content and attendance will be from the industry’s best.

The British Safety Council continues as the Educational Partner for Health & Safety North, bringing their considerable knowledge and expertise concerning the management and regulation of health and safety. By selecting the most prevalent seminar topics and leading speakers for the Conference Theatre, the BSC ensures that the event continues to be an essential part of continuing professional development for visitors.

3M are sponsoring the Safety Dialogue Theatre and offer attendees the unique opportunity to ‘Join the Debate’ as a panel of experts openly discuss the selected topic in these interactive Q&A sessions. Visitors can expect to actively participate in pertinent discussions and relevant debates on topics and issues surrounding the fire safety industry.

Day One

Day One in the Conference Theatre begins with Legal Updates and ISO preparation. Rob Elvin of Squires Patton Boggs will review recent prosecutions and the effect these might have on key legal principles, followed by Dave Parr from the BSC expanding on the new ISO standard. As an expert on ISO45001, he will help listeners understand key requirements and how a business needs to transition to meet the new guidelines. The Active Training Team will use multi media to explore innovative training approaches in an intense, 60 minute ‘Your Choice’ session that utilises technology to revolutionise health and safety training.  The final session of the day will move onto themes of wellbeing and mental health, with Tim Marsh summarising latest research and Jason Anker talking about a life changing, personal journey.

In the Safety Dialogue Theatre, AIF will discuss ‘Working At Height and Preventing Falls’ whilst looking at procedures, training and preventative equipment.  Using RPE will feature in the next debate as Mathew Bewely and Frank Angear outline the dangers of occupational lung disease and how to manage a fit testing programme. The afternoon will move onto the dangers of noise and vibration as Shaun Knott from Casella looks at assessing the risks involved and how to reduce and prevent them with the final session of the day on ‘Working in Confined Spaces’.

Day Two

Kevin Hard, Director at OCAID kicks off Day Two with a talk on the new concept of Engagement Culture as he looks at how building a positive safety culture at work can initiate real positive change in organisations.  New ideas for the future continue as Robertson Cooper look into the future of work and risk at the changing forms of employment and technology that are radically altering the workplace. Mark Davies from 7Futures will be talking about the wellbeing of workers in ‘Thriving!’ while Pinsent Masons will finish with specialist legal advice that advises on how to deal with a major or fatal incident effectively.

Repeat sessions are available on Day Two in the Safety Dialogue Theatre for those that missed the ‘Working at Height and Preventing Falls’, ‘Using RPE’ and ‘Managing Noise and Vibrations’ with added experts on the panel to give fresh perspectives. Nebosh and HSE will join to host an interactive session looking at ‘Achieving Health & Safety Leadership Excellence in the Workplace’. They will be discussing research that has identified key behaviours associated with excellence, highlighting what these are and having HSE’s psychology and human factor experts answer questions. ‘Training and Competence’ will be the final session on Day Two as representatives from Nebosh, Southalls and 3B Training remind us of the importance of specialist training, when training should be repeated and demonstrating competence.

All of the sessions mentioned are CPD accredited and visitors can gain CPD points simply by attending. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) helps individuals focus on how they can become a more competent and effective professional with training and learning being the key to increasing confidence and overall capability. Keeping up to date with industry requirements is a necessity for employees and businesses in this sector, and Fire Safety North is the perfect event to expand your knowledge and qualifications.

In addition, Health & Safety North is co-located with Fire Safety North, so visitors that attend will have access to a wealth of educational content across both exhibition halls. Two events, four theatres, four separate streams of free, professional content dedicated to helping companies maintain a safe, secure and cost-effective business.
