A stringent workplace culture encompassing every aspect of health and safety, together with the physical and mental wellbeing of every member of staff, has earned leading palletised freight distribution network Palletline its 12th Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
The accolade recognises Palletline’s unwavering commitment to embedding health and safety into every level of its operation – not only across its central hubs, offices and warehouses, but throughout its nationwide network of 97 member depots.
For Palletline, safety is not simply a policy – it is embedded in the company’s DNA, shaping every aspect of the business and continuing to set the benchmark for health and safety across the wider logistics sector.
With one of the lowest accident rates in the industry, Palletline was recognised for its robust workplace management systems and proactive approach to risk management.
First introduced almost 70 years ago, the RoSPA Awards recognise businesses and organisations that have implemented world-leading health and safety policies, rigorous risk management systems and consistently achieve exceptionally low levels of workplace harm.
To secure Gold status, Palletline had to satisfy a demanding set of criteria assessing everything from workforce engagement and safety culture to accident records and health and safety management systems.
Over the years, the company has pioneered a series of industry firsts, including becoming the first pallet network to introduce a 750kg weight limit for standard tail-lift deliveries where a manual pump truck is used – a measure since adopted across the wider transport industry. Where deliveries are made using an electric pump truck, the maximum weight limit increases to one tonne, reflecting the enhanced handling capability of the equipment while maintaining Palletline’s commitment to safe operating practices.
Innovations such as drive-through warehouses, fully pedestrianised operations, one-way traffic systems and 10mph speed limits have all contributed to the company’s exemplary safety record.
In 2024, Palletline unveiled its revolutionary Palleteyes system – the first forklift-mounted CCTV and scanning technology of its kind. The £2 million investment enhances operational efficiency while significantly improving warehouse safety through real-time driver’s-eye footage and intelligent data capture.
The system enables the HSEQ team to identify trends, investigate incidents more effectively and enhance staff training. It also detects poorly stacked pallets to reduce operational risks, while audible and visual alarms prevent forklift trucks from lifting loads exceeding the 400kg weight limit.
Alongside comprehensive risk assessments and a detailed hazard register, staff across Palletline’s operations and member depots undergo regular health and safety audits.
Daily, bi-annual and quarterly inspections are complemented by digital annual audits at member depots, ensuring continued compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental standards across the entire network.

The RoSPA Gold Award marks the second major health and safety accolade for Palletline in recent weeks. The company was also Highly Commended for Safety Excellence at the Safety & Health Excellence Awards, held at Coventry’s CBS Arena, further recognising its continued investment in creating one of the safest operating environments in the UK logistics industry.
Established in 1992, the member-owned Palletline network comprises 78 members employing around 12,000 people. Operating a daily fleet of more than 6,000 vehicles across 97 strategically located depots, the network handles more than four million pallets of freight every year.
