The old EN55022 EMC standard for ITE (Information Technology Equipment) was withdrawn on 5th March 2017. How does this affect FiDUS Power products?
Unlike some UL or ANSI standards the European standards do not “Grandfather” the newest standards. For the European standards this means that when the standard is withdrawn the product must adhere to the latest standards. It will usually have to be re-tested to the latest version of the standard as the withdrawn version is null and void. If the old standard is said to Grandfather subsequent releases then the product does not have to be re-tested to stay listed and thus it can still be sold in the regions for which that standard applies.
The new EN55032 is unique in a way, although the soon to be withdrawn EN55022 does not Grandfather the new EN55032, for power supplies there is no difference in the test procedure or the limits to which the product must adhere to for Europe. There is no need to re-test the units to EN55032, but the new standard must feature on the Declaration of Conformity (DoC) of the manufacturer / supplier of complete power supplies.
Currently there are no corresponding immunity standards to go with this emission standard, they are surely to follow.
As well as the EN55022, the EN55013 – Sound and television broadcast receivers and associated equipment and the EN55103-1 -AV and entertainment lighting for professional use standards will also fall under the new EN55032:2012.
The new standard will not affect the performance or quality requirements of FiDUS Power products and they continue to be safe and certified for their intended use.
