The new Nuvo-11501 industrial box PC is the latest addition to the Neousys 11000 family, where it takes on the role of a cost-effective all-rounder. With its combination of high computing power – normally only found in actively cooled systems – and a fully passive cooling design for ambient temperatures ranging from −10 to +60 °C, the system is clearly aimed at edge computing scenarios where traditional IT hardware is at risk of failure or would require too much maintenance.
The Intel Ultra 200S CPU, with a TDP of 35 or 65 watts, also integrates NPU functionality specifically designed for AI inference tasks. As such, the Nuvo-11501 presents itself not only as an automation computer, but as a cost-effective edge AI system capable of performing data analysis, image analysis or predictive maintenance locally, without the need for a risky cloud connection.
The new Nuvo-11501’s unique selling point lies not in any single feature, but in the combination of powerful CPU performance with modern AI acceleration and a fully fanless, industrial-grade system. Comparable IPCs either rely on energy-efficient embedded CPUs with limited performance or require active cooling to achieve higher performance. The Nuvo-11501 bridges this gap, thereby significantly expanding the range of applications. Typical areas of application include image processing in production control (machine vision), the control of AMRs (autonomous mobile robots), data analysis in process monitoring, HMI systems in control cabinets, and edge computing nodes in networked production facilities or buildings.
Compared to GPU-based edge systems, the significantly lower power consumption is notable, and the system remains more compact. In return, the GPU performance is naturally lower – a trade-off that is entirely acceptable in many inference scenarios.
Intel’s Ultra-200S processors, with up to 24 cores and an integrated NPU, offer impressive high I/O density, expandability via PCIe and MezIO modules, and optimisation for high-speed data processing. In addition to a 20 % increase in CPU performance with this generation, the integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit) enables dedicated processing of AI workloads. Despite the increased performance, power consumption remains low. The Ultra-200S processors require up to 20 % less power than the previous generation whilst maintaining the same TDP.
The Nuvo-11501’s I/O configuration is designed for core industrial tasks. Two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports are fitted with screw-secured connectors – a small but important detail in industrial environments to prevent failures caused by vibrations and other stresses. Port 2 also supports Wake-on-LAN for remote power-on. Four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports are also fitted with screw-on fastenings. DisplayPort and HDMI support the simultaneous operation of two monitors with resolutions of up to 3,840 × 2,160 pixels (4K UHD). For serial communication, which remains a standard in the industrial sector, a programmable RS-232/422/485 port is available, along with three further RS-232 ports or, optionally, a second RS-422/485 port.
Internally, the Nuvo-11501 features two Mini-PCIe slots with integrated SIM card slots, as well as an M.2-2230 E-Key slot. This allows Wi-Fi modules, LTE 4G or 5G modems and COM port expansion cards to be integrated directly, without the need for additional external hubs.
The German distributor Acceed stocks the full range of models in the Nuvo-11000 family, as well as a wide range of industrial PC systems, and provides advice on integrating them into customer-specific scenarios. The focus is on industrial communication, network hardware, embedded systems and application-specific solutions.
