Leading global motor and drive manufacturer WEG will demonstrate its innovative technology for the water industry at Global Water Expo 2025. The event will take place from September 2 to 4 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center, with WEG exhibiting at stand 1B41, Hall 1. The Expo is a platform for sector leaders to connect, share solutions and drive the future of global water infrastructure.

With the Middle East home to some of the most water-scarce environments on earth, reliable, efficient water infrastructure is critical. As Saudi Arabia advances its Vision 2030 goals for sustainable water management and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) implements its Water Security Strategy 2036, regional governments are prioritising innovation to ensure long-term water resilience. The Gulf region also leads the world in desalination, supplying over 40 per cent of total global capacity, but this process is energy-intensive and faces mounting pressure to reduce its environmental footprint. weg machinery

Against this backdrop, WEG will present the W23 Sync+ at Global Water Expo. This motor is a hybrid innovation that combines permanent magnet (PM), ferrite or neodymium magnets and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motor technologies that achieves IE5 and anticipated IE6 efficiency ratings — the highest currently available. Designed for maximum energy savings across a wide speed range, the motor is ideal for pumps, compressors and other high-load applications found in water treatment facilities. With an overall lower total cost of ownership, the W23 Sync+ also supports decarbonisation goals by drastically reducing CO emissions.

Attendees will also be able to see the W80 AXgen, a compact axial flux motor designed for OEMs that require a lightweight option without compromising on performance. Offering efficiency of up to 96.9 per cent, the W80 AXgen enables effective system design with a low environmental footprint. It is an ideal solution for specialised water processing and pumping equipment.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about the CFW line of VSDs. The range includes compact drives like the CFW100 and CFW300, mid-range models such as the CFW500 with integrated Pump Genius software, and the high-performance CFW900 for demanding industrial applications. Together, they offer scalable options for precise speed, torque and process control in everything from small pumping systems to large-scale water treatment operations.

WEG will also demonstrate its ADV200-SP VSD, a smart drive for solar-powered water pumping applications. The drive converts solar energy into hydraulic power while optimising pump performance through advanced control software. It supports both off-grid and dual-supply systems, making it ideal for remote and hybrid water applications across the Middle East.

Finally, WEG will also showcase its WG20 and WG50 gearboxes, engineered for high torque transmission and low maintenance. Their modular design and versatile mounting options make them ideal for integration into water industry infrastructure.weg machinery

“Water is a critical resource in the Middle East, where growing demand and limited natural supply make efficiency and reliability essential. This means that choosing the right equipment for the job is vital,” commented Raphael Torrano, managing director at WEG Middle East.

“WEG has actively been involved in Middle East water projects, providing motors, drives and transformers for desalination and transmission operations to support the region’s national infrastructure and to advance sustainability. We’re committed to the global energy transition, supporting regional and national climate goals through technologies that improve efficiency and reduce emissions.”
