Spirax Sarco’s Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) has recently seen its 500th delegate complete the course at its new UK Steam Technology Centre in Cheltenham.
Spirax Sarco was the first organisation to become accredited to teach the BOAS course in 2005, which provides national accreditation for anyone that operates or managers industrial boilers. BOAS was recently recommended in the new best practice BG01 boiler guidance, published by the CEA, SAFed and HSE in 2011.
Successful candidates may use the designatory letters ‘Cert. IBO’ (Certified Industrial Boiler Operator) or ‘Dip.BOM’ (Diploma in Boiler Plant Operation Management). After five years BOAS graduates are asked to take a refresher course, also available at the Cheltenham training centre.
“This is another important milestone for Spirax Sarco’s training provision in the UK,” Said Roger Glassonbury, Spirax Sarco training manager. “Properly trained staff can add real benefit to a company’s bottom line, as they are more aware of the energy saving and environmental aspects of steam plant, as well as learning how to do the job safely and gaining new skills.”
Spirax Sarco has recently invested £1.4m into the refurbishment of the UK Steam Technology Centre, which is the only training facility in the UK to offer a fully operational steam system with SCADA control. This enables it to enhance the quality of training across Spirax Sarco’s selection of steam engineering courses, as well as supporting live technology demonstrations.
