Southern Manufacturing & Electronics makes its long-awaited return to Farnborough from February 8th to 10th 2022.

Thousands of engineering products and services await visitors to the 20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition Centre in Hampshire. Despite the turmoil of the last 20 months, interest in the show has bounced back remarkably quickly, with many of its regular exhibitors eager to reclaim their place at the UK’s largest annual industrial exhibition. The number and diversity of firms taking part ensures that its reputation as one of the most comprehensive engineering technology shows in the UK remains firmly intact. Participants from all across the UK, continental Europe and beyond will take part, between them offering a spectacular array of products and services, from high-tech machine tools and automation to components, design and build and all manner of subcontract and business services.

All branches of industrial activity share a common need to operate in safe and compliant environments. Alongside all the leading-edge industrial technologies on show this year, the more mundane but no less important workshop essentials are also well represented. Workplace storage equipment specialist, Bott, will showcase a professional storage system, created from products in its cubio range. Ergonomically designed, the modular system is configurable to suit individual processes and adaptable to expand with a business. The range also integrates with the company’s CNC tool storage options, incorporating Lean, 5S and Six Sigma initiatives, promoting efficiency and productivity in the workplace.

Hand tools, tool storage, power tool accessories and security products will be on display by CKI – Carl Kammerling International. Among the line-up of precision engineered products will be CK Tools’ range of ESD-compliant pliers, precision pliers, tweezers and screwdrivers. There will also be a wide range of VDE-approved screwdrivers and pliers for professional electricians’ toolkits. Also on show will be Kasp Security’s range of LOTO safety lockout products for safe energy isolation.

Waste management is another area of critical importance to manufacturing operations. 2022 exhibitor QCR supplies a wide range of waste and recycling equipment designed to reduce waste volumes and carbon emissions by 75% compared to bins alone. From cardboard and plastic balers to general waste compactors, QCR will showcase a range of recycling equipment to help save space, improve tidiness and reduce handling time of waste. HSM (UK) will showcase options for waste management, demonstrating how one of its vertical baling presses can reduce the volume of waste by up to 95%, saving valuable space but generating a secondary and valuable raw material. Also exhibited will be its packaging machine, ProfiPack, which generates universally usable packaging from used cardboard.

Oemeta returns to Southern Manufacturing for 2022. Amongst globally recognised portfolio of high-performance metalworking fluids, it also pioneered the field of multi-functional fluids with its HYCUT system, a concept designed to significantly improve production performance whilst simultaneously reducing cost and environmental impact.

Improving efficiency is very much a core theme of the show, and one aspect that is seen as crucial to that end is automation in the workplace. One example showcased at this year’s event can be seen on the Design & Automation Solutions’ stand in the shape of an example of human-machine collaborative working using a MELFA ‘Assista’ Collaborative Robot, supplied by Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems UK. More solutions can be seen on the ICS stand. The firm is an independent robot systems integrator, with a wealth of knowledge that covers all makes of robots, including Panasonic, KUKA, ABB, Fanuc, Kawasaki and Yaskawa. The firm provides a turnkey service, from design and simulation through manufacturing to installation, training and lifetime support.

The ever-popular free seminar programme also returns for 2022 in a socially-distanced format. With UK business now operating in a very different world to that which existed during the previous show, keeping abreast of the latest legislation and management strategies has never been more important. This year, among the topics discussed, Paul Grabham looks at the impacts of post Brexit and Covid-19 on HMRC R&D Tax Credits. Tim Scurlock of Applied Lean Consulting gives some ideas on how to drive continuous improvement in your business; Graham Cooper offers tips on energy usage reduction in manufacturing and Nick Aitken and Dr Alex Martin give advice on how to handle a product safety incident. Sessions run over all three days and a full list is available on the show’s website at www.industrysouth.co.uk

Farnborough International Exhibition Centre is among Europe’s most up-to-date exhibition sites, with extensive infection control measures in place to help ensure as low-risk an environment as possible. There’s free onsite car parking for 3,500 vehicles, as well as a dedicated free bus service between Farnborough’s train stations straight to the show. The venue itself delivers a very good standard of services including a free WiFi service and on-site catering.

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2022 opens from February 8th to 10th. Admission to the exhibition is free. More information and tickets are available from www.industrysouth.co.uk
