SKY RADIO 3 provides organisations with an effective means of reducing the risk of accidental contact with overhead power lines…
Working near energized overhead power lines continues to present one of the most significant safety challenges for companies operating cranes, concrete pumps, aerial work platforms, agricultural machinery and other high-reach equipment. Accidental encroachment into the minimum safe approach distance can result in serious injury or fatalities, costly damage to machinery, project delays, regulatory investigations and increased operational costs. As construction, utility and infrastructure projects become more complex, businesses are under increasing pressure to improve operator safety while maintaining productivity.
To reduce these risks, many organisations rely on operator training, site planning, physical barriers, warning signage and established safe working procedures. While these measures remain essential, they depend heavily on human awareness and judgement in constantly changing working environments. Operators can face restricted visibility, challenging weather conditions and varying site layouts, making it difficult to accurately judge the distance between machinery and overhead power lines. These limitations highlight the need for an additional layer of protection that provides continuous, real-time monitoring of machine proximity to energized electrical infrastructure.
SKY RADIO 3 has been developed to address this challenge by providing an advanced proximity detection solution that actively assists operators in maintaining a safe working distance from overhead power lines. The system uses multiple sensors, configured to suit the specific machine application, to continuously monitor the distance between moving equipment and nearby high-voltage conductors. As the machine approaches a predefined risk zone, SKY RADIO 3 immediately issues both audible and visual warnings, allowing the operator to take corrective action before a hazardous situation develops.
The detection distance is configurable between 3 and 6 metres (10–17 feet), enabling the system to be adapted to different applications and site requirements without compromising productivity. SKY RADIO 3 is suitable for installation on concrete pumps, loader cranes, auxiliary cranes, aerial work platforms, agricultural machinery, fire and rescue vehicles, and other equipment operating at height.
By combining configurable sensing technology with real-time operator alerts, SKY RADIO 3 provides organisations with an effective means of reducing the risk of accidental contact with overhead power lines, helping to improve workplace safety, protect valuable assets and minimise costly downtime.
