A former professional football player is transitioning to life off the field with a new role helping businesses across Scotland save money on their energy bills.

Stuart Duff made over 200 appearances for Dundee United between 1999 and 2008, and enjoyed spells with Aberdeenand Inverness, before becoming the first British player to play in the Kazakhstani Premier League, when he joined Kairat in 2012, also captaining the team.

Duff was also a Scotland under-21s international and had a short spell playing in the Maltese Premier League with Qormi FC.

Now back in Scotland playing part-time football with Inverurie Loco Works, Duff will balance his playing commitments with a role at Kinect Energy Group’s Glasgow office, where he will be responsible for driving new business and developing the company’s growth.

Kinect Energy specialises in helping all kinds of businesses and organisations save money on their energy bills and become more energy efficient.

Duff previously spent time working for a major oil and gas company, where he gained a detailed insight into the operation of the energy industry.

Duff said: “I was fortunate enough to have made the breakthrough to full time football at 17-years-old, fulfilling a childhood dream, and I played at fantastic clubs and stadiums domestically and abroad.

“I have many highlights that I look back on fondly and representing my country at under-21s level always stands out, while the opportunity to go to Kazakhstan as the first and, to date, only British player ever to have played there is a special memory too.

“After an enjoyable and successful footballing career that lasted almost 15 years, I made the decision to make the transition into the oil and gas industry, where I have gained some valuable experience and knowledge.

“People always ask me how I have found it and I believe there are many transferable skills learned in football that can relate to work outside of football and fortunately it has been the case for me.

“I am extremely excited to learn about the operations at Kinect Energy and I can’t wait to work with the wide variety of businesses in Scotland to help them to keep their utility costs down.

“I believe the skills and experiences I’ve gained from football and the oil and gas industry are all transferable and will benefit me greatly whilst working with the team at Kinect Energy.”

Kinect Energy Group currently has 10 new business executives operating across the UK with the aim of bringing cheaper utility bills to businesses across the nation.

Amar Hussain, managing director at Kinect Energy said: “We’re delighted to have Stuart on board and I am sure he will be a familiar face to many colleagues working from our Glasgow office.

“Stuart has fantastic experience and skills which will help grow our Glasgow office and we’re looking forward to introducing him to our new and existing clients.

“It’s a really exciting time for Kinect Energy at the moment as we continue to grow the business across the UK and beyond.”
