The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) has appointed new Chairs to two of its Technical Sub-Committees, with a sharp focus on safety.

Stuart Roberts, Technical Sales Manager – Valves at Gas Control Equipment Ltd (GCE), is the new Chair of Technical Sub-Committee 2 (Cylinders and Valves), and Simon Barker, Managing Director at Siracle, will Chair Technical Sub-Committee 6 (Health and Safety).

Playing a vital role in BCGA’s commitment to ‘mission safety’ in the compressed gases industry, the two Technical Sub-Committees (TSCs) are part of the nine in total operated by the BCGA.

Each brings together experts within Association membership, who volunteer their own expertise and insight to drive forward best practice.

Stuart Roberts said: “TSC2 is the committee that represents the most common form of packaging compressed gas.

“As Chair of the Sub-Committee, together with our expert members, we will be ensuring the demands of all application and technological changes are managed with products that are safe, whilst commercially viable for our members, and that legislative standards are sensible and well thought out.

“I would like to share my experiences and gather new knowledge from peers to steer and promote the best of standards and practice in manufacturing these two elements.”

Simon Barker, Managing Director at Siracle, added: “When it comes to TSC6, my focus is on building on the strong foundations already in place and to lead the committee in a way that encourages open, honest discussion and helps us make real headway on the health and safety issues that matter.

“Everyone should feel they’ve got a voice at the table, and that what we’re doing has a direct, positive impact on BCGA members and their teams.

“The aim is to keep the committee forward-thinking and engaged, sharing what works, staying ahead of the curve, and making sure we’re hitting the right standards.”

Each BCGA Technical Sub-Committee plays a key role in developing the Association’s highly regarded library of technical documents, including Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes, which are used as a point of reference across the industry and in related sectors, both nationally and internationally.

CEO of the BCGA, Ellen Daniels, said: “BCGA’s best practice and support is formulated through the technical expertise of our organisation, which is channelled through the Technical Sub-Committee format.

“I am delighted to welcome Stuart and Simon into these two key industry roles that focus so heavily on safety and look forward to seeing them drive forward best practice and further develop vital safety frameworks in our industry.”
