In order to help preserve the environment, improve operational safety and minimise revenue loss, FLIR Advanced Thermal Solutions has launched the new FLIR GF320 optical gas imaging camera.

The new offering is a real time infrared camera designed for use in harsh industrial environments, and takes advantage of focal plane array detector and optical systems that are tuned to very narrow spectral infrared ranges. This enables the camera to image infrared energy absorbed by hydrocarbon gas leaks. Images are processed by the FLIR High Sensitivity Mode feature to show the presence of gases against stationary backgrounds. Gases that are detectable by the FLIR GF320 camera appear on screen as smoke plumes.

In the oil and gas industry the FLIR GF320 can be used to spot hydrocarbon leaks in tanks, pipelines and facilities that will improve safety and profitability, and minimise emissions with less risk of business interruption due to actions from regulatory agencies.

The GF320 is well suited for monitoring plant that is difficult to reach with contact measurement tools, and literally thousands of components can be scanned per shift without the need to interrupt the process. Using thermal imaging to detect gas leaks is a proven technique to reduce repair down-time, provide process verification and is exceptionally safe, allowing potentially dangerous leaks to be monitored from several metres away.
