For more than 85 years, ENGEL WORKWEAR has been selected by customers from all over Europe as the first choice for all-round protection and maximum comfort no matter what a work situation may demand.

Founded in 1927 by Carl J. Engel Senior and now 4th generation family-owned, the company has 850 employees based at its Headquarters in Norgesvej, Denmark and 2 factories in Lithuania.  Since it first began, with the importing of denim from the U.S. as a hard wearing fabric, the company’s aims have always been the same – to provide superior quality, value for money workwear designed for a perfect, flexible fit and to give long lasting, reliable service.

The original fabric was called Bull Denim which was made from 100% cotton. Over the years the materials and manufacturing processes have been continually developed to incorporate many new practical and beneficial design details with the versatility of the fabric improved by adding the yarn combination of polyester and cotton.

New colours have been introduced and many businesses are now recognised by the specific colour combination and design of their Engel corporate workwear where not only is it valued for its practical uses but also as a significant part of a company’s professional statement.

Development is an ongoing process as new smart colour combinations and materials are continuously created and tested, with a constant emphasis on innovation, comfort, durability and environmental awareness.

Now firmly established in the UK and Irish markets, the company has an impressive choice of collections all of which conform to all relevant British and European standard regulations and are ‘tailor-made’ for a wide range of industries with each item of clothing designed to give maximum freedom of movement and reliability.

Engel high-vis workwear helps save the environment

A range of high-visibility protective safety clothing with 50% of the material made from recycled plastic bottles has been added to the comprehensive collections from Danish manufacturer Engel Workwear.

Engel’s high-viz ‘Safety-Light’ range

Called ‘Safety Light’, each item of clothing can be verified to consist of regenerated polyester fibres ultimately spun from a specific number of plastic bottles to make up 50% of its content. This is combined with 40% cotton and 10% standard polyester (245 g/m2) to produce a cool-to-wear, durable fabric. By using regenerated polyester which is equally as efficient as new, there are also significant consumption savings on energy, water and C02.

The company has worked closely with Unifi, one of the world’s most advanced recycling centres which transforms the recycled bottles into a polyester yarn called ‘REPREVE©’.

The smart, mix-and-match range includes boiler suits (containing 37 plastic bottles), work-jackets (20 bottles), trousers (19 bottles) with Cordura kneepad pockets and elasticated waistband, bib-overalls (23 bottles) and shorts (14 bottles). All have many practical pockets and comfort-design features. There is also a specific selection especially for women called ‘Ladies Light’, all with the same benefits.

Commenting on the initiative, the CEO of Engel Workwear, John Engel said: “We are delighted to be able to make a positive contribution in helping to reduce the impact of the single-use global plastic waste crisis by putting many thousands of otherwise discarded bottles to further practical purpose. By doing so, we are able to not only do our bit to help improve the environment, but also be the first to use this versatile fabric to produce a unique range of lightweight, hardwearing and comfortable high-visibility clothing which will help keep our customers safe”

High vis super stretch comfort from Engel Workwear

A range of high visibility, flexible workwear which stretches to follow the movements of the body giving maximum comfort in any work situation forms part of the comprehensive workwear collection from Danish workwear specialists ENGEL.

High vis ‘super stretch’ comfort from Engel Workwear

Called ‘Safety – Super-Stretch’, the wide variety of garments feature elastic fibres woven into a polyester and cotton mix; the strong yet extreme flexibility of the material allows each item of clothing to return to its original shape making it especially suitable for working in confined spaces whilst still retaining all the inherent advantages of design and style.

With added safety being as important to wearers as both comfort and practical durability, not only does the flexibility help reduce tiredness, the workwear also allows them to be readily seen throughout the day or night, further minimising the risk of accidents.

The ‘Super-Stretch’ collection, which includes high-vis ‘Safety’ work jackets, trousers, shorts and bib-overalls is also being offered during 2021 in an Environmentally friendly, ‘Sustainable-Safety’ version which incorporates 50% regenerated polyester fibres made from recycled plastic bottles.

This method of yarn production with the brand name of ‘REPREVE©’ has been developed by Unifi, one of the world’s most advanced recycling centres; waterproofs, T shirts, sweatshirts and a zipped hoodie using the same material are also being added.
