DuPont has introduced Tychem 6000 Tape, a new chemical barrier tape designed to help maintain PPE system integrity by reinforcing seams and vulnerable garment interfaces to prevent chemical ingress. Developed for use with Category III chemical protective garments, the tape provides strong barrier performance across a range of organic and inorganic chemicals, helping safety professionals reduce ingress risk at critical junctions.
Taping plays an essential role in keeping workers safe. Seams, zipper flaps, and junctions between items of protective clothing – such as glove-to-sleeve, hood-to-mask, and footwear-to-ankle – are common weak points. General-purpose tape provides no chemical barrier and may react with certain substances, potentially causing burns or system failure. DuPont has developed Tychem 6000 Tape to provide a reliable, chemically resistant barrier that is easy to apply and upholds PPE system integrity.
Tychem 6000 Tape has been engineered to provide both high chemical resistance and practical functionality in applications from petrochemical operations and industrial maintenance to emergency response and clinical laboratories. It provides a permeation barrier of at least 30 minutes against a range of chemical hazards, including organic and inorganic compounds.
Handling characteristics and ease of application are just as important as technical performance. Tychem 6000 Tape can be torn by hand, enabling fast application without the need for scissors – an important advantage when wearing gloves or operating in time-sensitive situations. The tape does not curl after tearing, helping users achieve a smooth seal that minimizes creasing, which is a common cause of channel formation.
The tape is a distinctive yellow color, which makes it easy to see during safety checks, even when wearing a protective mask. Its lightweight construction and reliable adhesion ensure it stays securely in place, even in harsh, dusty, or corrosive environments. The bond is sufficiently strong to remain in place for an entire shift but peels away easily to enable efficient doffing.
Designed as Category I PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425, Tychem 6000 Tape is intended for use with Category III chemical protective garments, such as DuPont Tychem, Tyvek, and ProShield disposable coveralls. The tape is 50-mm wide and is supplied in boxes of twelve 50-m rolls.
