Bull Products, a manufacturer of life-saving fire protection equipment, has strengthened its presence in the shipbuilding industry, after securing a contract to protect m/v REV Ocean, the world’s largest superyacht.

Bull Products is working with Vestcom, a major wireless communication supplier in Norway, to supply more than 25 of its Cygnus Wireless Alarms to protect the ship until completion in 2021.

The units installed on the ship include 25 Cygnus Fire Call Point Alarms and a range of first aid, heat, smoke and water detectors. The alarm system also connects to Bull’s 3G Auto Dialler that allows site managers to programme up to 50 phone numbers of responsible persons in an emergency who are then notified by SMS if an activation or intrusion has occurred.

REV Ocean is the world’s largest superyacht build by the Norwegian yard, Vard Brattvaag. As a combined luxury liner and research vessel, it will accommodate cruise passengers and also scientists and innovators, who will explore issues including the impact of CO2 emissions on the oceans, plastic pollution, and sustainable fishing.

Matt Trigwell, Sales Director at Bull Products, says: “Shipyards provide unique challenges to fire safety and have a number of high risks including hazardous materials, welding operations and electrical dangers, so our wireless fire alarms are key to protecting workers and the ship around the clock. We are delighted to support such a prestigious project in Norway and to grow our presence further in Europe.”

Ferenc Szell, Managing Director at Vestcom, adds: “The Cygnus alarm system is perfect for protecting a ship like this during the construction period. It’s very reliable, easy to install and to move around as construction progresses. The alarm has great flexibility and extremely reliable radio communication which is perfect for challenging shipyard environments. Using the Cygnus alarm system offers a new level of enhanced protection.”
