To improve safety, longevity and sustainability for manufacturers, thermal oil (thermal fluid) specialist Global Heat Transfer has launched an upgraded version of Globaltherm® HF, a high temperature thermal fluid with one of the highest fluid flash points on the market. Its impressively high flash point of 280˚C (536˚F) and blend of additives makes it a durable choice for manufacturers operating thermal fluid systems. Globaltherm® HF is a superior, high-performance, energy efficient heat transfer fluid, suitable for applications requiring single fluid heating and cooling applications including plastics processing, moulding, casting, paint and chemicals. It has an operating range from 5˚C (41˚F) up to a maximum bulk temperature of 338˚C (640˚F). This heat transfer fluid delivers superior resistance to sludging and extreme oxidation found in many of these manufacturing environments. Designed with process sustainability and longevity in mind, Globaltherm® HF is non-toxic and non-hazardous and requires no special handling. It is compatible with most organic heat transfer oils — topping up used fluids with Globaltherm® HF may increase fluid life. At the end of its life, manufacturers can responsibly dispose of used Globaltherm® HF via used oil recycling. “Not only does Globaltherm® HF have one of the highest flash points for mineral oil on the market, its resilient blend of additives means it offers long-lasting and trouble-free service when managed correctly,” said Tim Powell, thermal oil specialist at Global Heat Transfer. “All thermal fluids degrade over time, but manufacturers can combine this high performance fluid with proactive fluid maintenance to achieve a long lifespan for both system and fluid.” For users of Globaltherm® HF, Global Heat Transfer recommends routine analytical checks of fluid while it is hot, live and circulating as part of the maintenance plan. This check must be carried out at least annually, but ideally quarterly. This comes included as part of Global Heat Transfer’s award winning Thermocare® proactive maintenance package. With Thermocare®, changes to fluid condition are quickly detected and managed, which helps manufacturers avoid issued with their system and fluid, while maintaining product quality and process sustainability. The flash point of a thermal fluid is the minimum temperature at which the vapours will ignite, or flash off, in the presence of oxygen (in the air) and an ignition source. Managing the flash point of a heat transfer fluid is extremely important from a safety perspective, as prescribed by the DSEAR 2002 and UKEX (formally the ATEX 137 directive that applies to EU countries) Health and Safety Regulations.
