As part of a major conversion project, lighting solutions specialist Glamox has supplied a variety of LED lighting to the former shuttle tanker Hanne Knutsen, which is now operating on the Martin Linge oil field in the North Sea as a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessel.

A crew of 17 people will work in a three-step scheme that creates over 50 jobs at the Martin Linge FSO, while it is in operation. Lighting is of key importance to the crew onboard the FSO, who need to operate the vessel safely at all times of the day and night.

Glamox supplied a variety of lighting including explosion-protected (Ex) LED lighting such as floodlights (FX60), technical lighting (TX60) as well as interior lights and searchlights.

The FX60 range of Ex-protected LED floodlights are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous gas environments. The floodlights offer an extremely long rated life of 100,000 hours at an ambient temperature of 45°C, as well as low power consumption (only 40W per module) and low maintenance requirements. The FX60 floodlights can be supplied as single-, two-, three- or four-module versions and are designed for illumination duties in harsh, hazardous environments, particularly onshore oil refineries, petrochemical plants, offshore oil and gas platforms and marine vessels.

The TX60 range of LED lighting for Zone 1 hazardous gas environments is a direct replacement for T8 fluorescent light fittings. No new lighting calculations are needed. The mounting fixings can easily replace most T8 hazardous fittings on the market due to its flexible design. The advanced IC driver technology is class leading and provides 100,000 hrs at +45°C with no system lifetime limitations. The fixture has an impressive temperature range from -50°C to +55°C. TX60 LED lighting ensures a safe and high visual working environment for the crew due to its high quality colour rendering.
